Mulakushyam | Kerala Style | South Indian Recipe

Ingredients:

1.     Tuvar Dal: 1 cup

2.     Turmeric Powder: ¼ tsp

3.     Ash Gourd (White Bhopla): 500 gms

4.     Tomatoes: 2

5.     Green chillies: 2-3

6.     Curry Leaves: 8-10

7.     Coconut Oil: 1 tsp

8.  Water - 2 cups

9.       Salt as Required

 

Method:

Step 1) Pressure cook dal and chopped vegetables (bhopla, tomatoes and green chillies) in 2 cups of water with turmeric powder and salt for two to three whistles. Open lid once the pressure has reduced.

Step 2) Open pressure cooker lid and boil it for 2 to 3 minutes.

Step 3) Finally add 1 teaspoon coconut oil and curry leaves and switch off the flame.

Simple and delicious mulakushyam ready!!

Step 4) Serve hot with steamed rice.

 

Tip: Ash gourd (Bhopla) can be replaced with Bottle gourd (Doodhee).
