Pulinkari | Kerala Style | South Indian Recipe

Ingredients:

1.     Tuvar Dal: 1 cup

2.     Turmeric Powder: ¼ tsp

3.     Red Chilli Powder: 1 tsp

4.     Oil: 2 tablespoon

5.     Elephant Foot Yam (Suran): 250 gms

6.     Raw Banana: 1 (Kerala Banana- Nenthra Pazham)

7.     Tamarind: 1 lemon sized ball

8.     Mustard Seeds: 1 tsp

9.     Red Chilli (whole): 2

10. Fenugreek (Methi) Powder: 1tsp (Roasted)

11. Curry Leaves: 8-10

12. Water - 2 cups

13. Salt as Required


     Method:

Step 1) Pressure cook dal and chopped vegetables (suran and raw banana) in 2 cups of water with turmeric powder, chilli powder and salt for two to three whistles. Open the pressure cooker lid once the pressure has reduced.

Step 2) Soak tamarind in half cup warm water, extract pulp and set aside.

Step 3) Now, open the pressure cooker lid and pour the tamarind pulp, boil it for 5 miinutes.

Step 4) For Tempering:

In a kadai heat 2 tablespoon oil add mustard seeds let it splutter then add broken red chillies. Switch off the flame add curry leaves and fenugreek powder.

Delicious Pulinkari ready!!

Step 5) Serve hot with steamed rice.
